Interrupted and uninterrupted lane changes: a microscopic outlook of lane-changing dynamics

چکیده
Field observations suggest that the Lane-Changing (LC) processes are often interrupted by surrounding vehicles. Understanding these intermediate interruptions and evasive behavior during an LC is necessary for developing realistic simulation tools, collision-warning systems, human-like in self-driving However, identifying classifying into (ILC) uninterrupted (ULC) not straightforward. This study proposes a methodology automatic identification classification of events. Further, we highlighted characteristic differences between ILC ULC comparing their duration, crash likelihood, driver discomfort. The duration exposure, severity crashes were captured using surrogate safety measures such as Anticipated Collision Time (ACT), Time-Exposed ACT (TE-ACT), Time-Integrated (TI-ACT). driver's discomfort was measured acceleration noise number sign inversions profile. Kruskal–Wallis–ANOVA test on above attributes sensitivity analysis models confirm characteristically different.

Microscopic Modeling of Lane Selection and Lane- Changing at Toll Plazas
The microscopic simulation of traffic operations at a toll plaza entails the detailed understanding of the driver behavior. The lane selection behavior of the driver involves complex inter-vehicle dynamics. This study involves the development of a new methodology for the microscopic simulation of toll plaza operations. Different driver dynamics such as the lane selection probability based on th...
متن کاملSUMO’s Lane-Changing Model
The SUMO application suite [1, 2] provides tools for the Simulation Of Urban MObility. It consists of a microscopic simulator for multimodal road traffic and a host of applications for preparing simulation input data (network import and modification, traffic import, routing) and for working with simulation outputs. The microscopic driving dynamics of road vehicles are determined by the interpla...
متن کاملModeling Freeway Lane Changing Behavior
Drivers continuously evaluate the surrounding traffic and the roadway environment, and make decisions about lanes and travel speed. The objective of this thesis is to develop a lane changing model that can be used in microscopic traffic simulation models to capture drivers' lane changing behavior. Lane change is modeled as a sequence of four steps: decision to consider a lane change, choice of ...
متن کاملLane-changing in traffic streams
It is postulated that lane-changing vehicles create voids in traffic streams, and that these voids reduce flow. This mechanism is described with a model that tracks lane changers precisely, as particles endowed with realistic mechanical properties. The model has four easy-to-measure parameters and reproduces without re-calibration two bottleneck phenomena previously thought to be unrelated: (i)...
متن کاملMulti-lane hybrid traffic flow model: a theory on the impacts of lane-changing maneuvers
This paper introduces a multi-lane hybrid theory that treats lane-changing as temporary blockages, because this is what is physically observed in reality. For maximum accuracy lanechanging vehicles are modeled as discrete particles endowed with limited acceleration capabilities that interact realistically with the multi-lane continuum stream. This discrete-continuum (hybrid) setup is parsimonio...
